How to Keep Your Computer Virus Free

  • Don't use Internet Explorer. Use Firefox or Chrome,
  • Install Adblock. It will speed up your browsing and prevent you from clicking on malware-ridden sites.
  • Make sure everything on your Windows system is up-to-date. This includes Flash and Java which often bug you. Those are both platforms through which viruses can come. For system updates, make sure Windows update is working and current.
  • Install only one antivirus program. We recommend Microsoft Security Essentials
  • Clean up the crud on your system once a month. We use CCleaner.
If you think you have a virus
  • Restart the computer.
  • Hold down F8 at the very beginning. If you see the Windows logo you've gone to far so hold the power button until it shuts down. You should see a menu offering Safe Mode amongst other things.
  • Choose Safe Mode with Networking.
  • Run CCleaner (Load up, Analyze, Clean)
  • Run Malwarebytes (Update, Full Scan)
  • That gets most.  Clean whatever Malwarebytes finds and reboot.  Load Windows Update.  If you still think you have a virus call us.
